Kumarakom
A sleepy backwater town set on a beautiful emerald peninsula jutting into the waters of the Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom is a lush and green piece of paradise. A cluster of tiny islands nestles among an intricate web of mangrove forests, paddy fields and coconut groves, intersected by canals, lagoons and waterways. Hibiscus bushes lean across the smaller canals, forming a leafy green canopy punctuated by bright flowers. Water hyacinths float on the lake’s surface, creating a carpet of pale lilac blooms. Slender coconut palms sway in groves along the water’s edge.
