This heavenly little plantation retreat high in the Himalayas overlooks the Gungeet River, with majestic views of the Kanchanjunga mountain range. Guests are accommodated in one of two bungalows, each comprising four suites, as well as shared guest areas, gardens, verandas and terraces. Homely touches include hand-embroidered bed linen, baskets of fresh fruit and vases of brightly coloured flowers in each bedroom. All the suites have old-fashioned free-standing bathtubs and five also boast walk-in rain showers. A wide range of cuisine is served, using fresh ingredients grown in the gardens. Individual tastes are catered to and guests are involved in the planning of menus that include local fare, traditional Indian dishes, exotic Southeast Asian delicacies and European favourites, as well as family recipes passed down for generations.
Apart from enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the diverse scenery, guests can explore a wide variety of hiking trails or embark on a plantation tour that includes the growing and harvesting process, as well as a tea tasting. Fishing and river rafting are available nearby, and day trips travel to Darjeeling and Kalimpong. For those wishing to enjoy the refuge of the hotel, massages, reflexology and beauty treatments soothe and relax, while cooking classes can also be arranged.
