MARARI BEACH RESORT

Inspired by an ancient way of life

  • Set on a beautiful sandy beach
  • Selection of standard and pool villa cottages
  • Fresh seafood, local favourites and variety of international cuisine
  • Fully equipped ayurveda centre and beachside yoga classes

A luxury celebration of Kerala's coastal fishing villages, Marari Beach Resort sprawls among lush lawns, far-flung lotus ponds and whispering coconut groves, all threaded through with stone-flagged pathways. Sheltered by a windbreak of palms, the resort is just steps away from the white-flecked azure waters of the oceans. Modelled on the fishermen's dwellings of Mararikulam, thatched cottages sit among the ochre sand. A fine balance between traditional form and modern function, roofs are made of warm palm thatch, while the bathrooms combine a luxurious feel with the traditional Keralan open-roofed style. Pool villa cottages are more luxurious, adding a secluded courtyard with a private pool. Attention to detail is everywhere, down to the taps set outside each cottage for guests to wash the sand off their feet.

The simple traditional dishes of the fisherfolk are served in the veranda-style restaurant, interspersed with a variety of international favourites. Dinners and candlelit, often with live music, and feature freshly grilled seafood. Set in a beautiful 200-year-old building deep within a wooded thicket, the bar offers the ideal place to savour the heady local concoction known as panchamrutam. With a fully equipped ayurvedic centre and yoga classes in the shade of a cool coconut grove on the sandy beach, there is more than enough opportunity to relax.
